Discovering Gent on my own

My friend is in Belgium for her work and so I have to discover Gent on my own.. I don't really mind that.. It's in the middle of the day and I don't think anybody is interested enough to kidnap me.. Futhermore, Gent is a safe place..

So what is there to see in Gent? There are a few interesting tourist landmark that you can visit.. You can alway buy the tourist map (for €9.90) or if you are lucky enough like I am, you'll get one for free!! (God bless the lady who gave me the map)..

Through the alley and small roads in Gent, you will come across beautiful big murals everywhere..

When you reach at the centre of Gent (Historic Centrum) you'll come across a place surrounded by bars, pubs and restaurants.. I choose one which advertise special waffle and since I am in Belgium, trying Belgian Waffle is a must! The place I choose is directly opposite to the big buulding with a fountain in front of it..

It was a sunny day and I decided to sit outside.. I spent a solid one hour just sit there and observing people..

What I've observed:
1. The postman in Belgium delivered their mail on a bicycle
2. There are a lot, I mean like tonnes of Chinese (or maybe Hong Kong or Taiwan.. I don't know.. They are all look alike) tour group come to Belgium
3. People in Gent runs with their dogs under the bright sun! It's hot just to sit let alone run!

I did not know that before, but thanks to the time spent eating the waffle, I know that now..
What I've paid:
1. Return ticket from Antwerp to Gent = €18.80
2. Belgian waffle (topped with ice cream and chocolate syrup) and a cold drink = €8.50

Hector Chicken for dinner at Leonardo Hotel

We will be staying at Leonardo Hotel located just in front of the central.. Since my friend arrived there before me, she already bought dinner for us from Hector Chicken (just a couple of doors away from the hotel)..

Hector Chicken is a Belgian fast-food specialist of halal roasted and fried chicken.. So whenever you find any of their outlet, have no doubt! Eat away!

The origin land of Eden Hazard

Arrived at the Charleroi Airport around 5.30pm.. It is a decent small airport at the south of Brussels.. I have to get to Antwerp to meet my friend and the only way to get to Antwerp (the only way that I know) is get a bus to Brussles Midi and catch a train to Antwerpen Centraal..

What I've paid:
1. Bus ticket to Brussels Midi = €17 (you can get a cheaper price if you buy it online)
2. Train ticket to Antwerpen Centraal = €7.30 (you can buy it from the counter or if you have enough coins, you can buy it using the machine)

Antwerpen Centraal is no joke!! The grand architecture of the 18th century welcomes you as you ascend the escalator.. It was amazingly breathtaking!!

Cannot get a better picture -__-"

Welcome to Antwerpen Centraal

The journey begins

A 5-hours bus ride from Aberdeen Bus Station (next to Union Square) to Edinburgh Airport was not that long considering a bus ride from Kuala Lumpur (the city I used to work in) to Kuala Terengganu (the place where I was born and raised) usually took around 7 to 8 hours..

MegaBus was a pleasent bus with toilet inside.. It took off at 8.15pm and arrived at Halbeath Interchange, Park & Ride around 10.40pm.. From here, switched to another bus (Stagecoach bus number 747) which will take me to the airport.. The journey took around one to one and a half hours.. I slept throughout the whole journey so I lost track of time
..
What I've paid:
1. Megabus (booked in advance) = £9.90

Once BLUE, Forever BLUE!

A week to go before the journey begins.. Browsing through all available intermediaries website, I manage to found the cheapest combination to come back to Aberdeen.

What I've paid:
1. Eindhoven to London = RyanAir (£30.99)
2. London to Aberdeen = Megabus (£13.00)

The thing is, my flight is estimated to arrived in London by 9.30am and the bus back to Aberdeen is at 11.30pm.. More than 12 hours gap!! I could not spent the whole time waiting at the bus station!!
Suddenly, I can see a figurative light bulb in my head! Chelsea stadium tours!! This is perfect!! I am alone and I dont have to bother about somebody else!! I got the whole day to myself. The. Whole. Frickin. Day.

Addition to what I've paid:

1. Chelsea Stadium Tours for 1 person = £12 (the whole price list can be found at Chelsea official website)

Stamford Bridge, here i come!!

May 2014

Plans have been made.. 2 weeks off from work for my friend, and I am on my first ever semester break while in RGU..

Belgium, Germany, Holland!

What I've paid:
1. Aberdeen to Edinburgh = Megabus (£9.90)
2. Edinburgh to Brussels (Charleroi) = RyanAir (£35.99)
3. Brussels to Koln = Thalys train (€25.00)
4. Dusseldorf to Amsterdam = Bahn train (€29)

I have yet bought a ticket back to Aberdeen since the price was sooooo damn high!! Maybe I should end the journey by flying to Edinburgh and hop on a bus to Aberdeen, the same way how it started..
Ready, set, go!!
